Meet one of the family members and hear firsthand how their story continues today. A perfect blend of culture, cuisine, and charm! As many know, The Sound of Music is based on the von Trapp family, who arrived in the United States to tour and perform as the Trapp Family Singers. In the early 1940's, they settled in Stowe, Vermont, on a picturesque farm with sweeping mountain views. In the summer of 1950, they began welcoming guests into their rustic 27-bedroom family home/lodge. In 1980, after a devastating fire, the original lodge was replaced with the new, 96-room Trapp Family Lodge. The Lodge is a unique, four-season resort specializing in European-style accommodations and cuisine, spectacular mountain vistas, upscale amenities, and outdoor activities. Situated on 2,600 acres overlooking the classic New England village of Stowe, Vermont, Trapp Family Lodge is the perfect setting for a memorable getaway with your favorites!

Sunday, April 12:
In the early 1940s, the von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers before eventually settling in Stowe, Vermont, on an enchanted farm with sweeping mountain vistas reminiscent of their beloved Austria. Our first stop today is at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Situated on Route 100 between Waterbury and Stowe, Vermont, Cold Hollow Cider Mill is one of the most-visited attractions in Vermont, offering our guests a glimpse into the fascinating world of traditional cider making, utilizing a century-old, rack-and-cloth press. No visit is complete without tasting our cider, munching contentedly on a cider donut, watching the artisans in our bakery, observing our honeybee hive, enjoying a tasty lunch in our café,and enjoying a Vermont maple creemee. A boxed lunch is included upon arrival. Choose a sandwich: Ham & Swiss with Cold Hollow Maple Mustard or Turkey & Cabot Cheddar w/mayo; a wrap: Veggie – Hummus, organic greens, tomato, cucumber, carrot, onion, green pepper with house-made ranch or Roast Beef and Cheddar – Onion, green pepper, organic mixed greens and Cold Hollow Maple Horseradish mustard cream sauce, OR a “Vermont to the Core” pannini- Green Mountain Smokehouse Bacon, Cabot Cheddar, Cold Hollow Cider Jelly and Apple Slices grilled to perfection on Sourdough Bread. You may also choose the Cold Hollow Salad - Organic Greens, toasted walnuts, sunflower seeds, apple slices and blue cheese crumbles served with a side of Cold Hollow Cider Vinaigrette. Then we will continue on to the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort (1-800-826-7000). Upon arrival we will enjoy tea & cookies in the lounge before we raise a glass to a great getaway, during our wine tasting in the Wine Cellar. The Wine Cellar is filled with varieties from all around the world, including Austria, Germany, and the U.S. Here, try all sorts of wines from the lodge’s exclusive collection, including sweet, dry, robust, and fruity wines. A delicious charcuterie spread (cheeses, meats, fruit, crackers, breads, mustards & chutneys) is also included in the tasting. You’ll then have a bit of time to freshen up before a fantastic Austrian buffet dinner is included in the main dining room tonight. Then the rest of your night will be free to enjoy the resort and relax after a full day.
Monday, April 13:
A buffet breakfast is included this morning in the main dining room. Next delight in the von Trapp history tour, which is a 90 minute experience that gives you insight to the truths and imagined story lines in the Sound of Music and gives you an in depth look at how the von Trapps escaped Austria and ended up here in beautiful Stowe, Vermont. Watch a 20-minute documentary about Maria's last trip to Salzburg, visit the family cemetery and visit Maria, the Captain and many of their children's gravesites and you will even get to meet a family member and hear what their experience was like growing up with Maria. By far their most popular tour!. After the tour we’ll make our way to Burlington, VT for lunch on our own and free time for browsing in the popular Church Street Marketplace.
