As many know, The Sound of Music is based on the von Trapp family, who arrived in the United States to tour and perform as the Trapp Family Singers. In the early 1940's, they settled in Stowe, Vermont, on a picturesque farm with sweeping mountain views. In the summer of 1950, they began welcoming guests into their rustic 27-bedroom family home/lodge. In 1980, after a devastating fire, the original lodge was replaced with the new, 96-room Trapp Family Lodge. The Lodge is a unique, four-season resort specializing in European-style accommodations and cuisine, spectacular mountain vistas, upscale amenities, and outdoor activities. Situated on 2,600 acres overlooking the classic New England village of Stowe, Vermont, Trapp Family Lodge is the perfect setting for a vacation during any season.

Sunday, April 6:

In the early 1940s, the von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers before eventually settling in Stowe, Vermont, on an enchanted farm with sweeping mountain vistas reminiscent of their beloved Austria. Upon arrival we will experience a tour of the property which will give you insight to the true and imagined story lines in the Sound of Music and gives you an in depth look at how the von Trapps escaped Austria and ended up in beautiful Stowe, Vermont. Watch a 20-minute documentary about Maria's last trip to Salzburg and you will even get to meet a family member and hear what their experience was like growing up with Maria. After the tour/presentation you will have time on your own to explore the resort and freshen up for dinner. A buffet dinner is included in the main dining room tonight, then the rest of your night is free.

Monday, April 7:

A buffet breakfast is included this morning in the main dining room. Then the day is your own to explore the resort on your own. Check out Von Trapp Brewing, hike or walk the beautiful trails, meet the cow, take a dip in the indoor pool, there are plenty of free options and some also have an additional fee. We will depart the resort around 2:30pm and on the way home we will stop at Dakin Farm in Ferrisburgh, VT. Here at their 6,000 square foot retail store, where you will enjoy plentiful samples and maybe find a piece of Vermont to take home. Here you can also watch the newly filmed Dakin Farm Story (approximately 9 minutes) which plays in the store. Don’t forget to check out the Sugarhouse, and Smokehouse for even more scrumptious goodies! Our approximate arrival in the Capital District at 7:30pm. One stop each way.
