America's independence may never have been realized without the courage and contributions of the men and women of New York State.  One-third of the Revolutionary War's battles were fought here.  George Washington said that whoever held the Hudson River and New York City controlled "the safety of America."  This history has been preserved at forts, battlefields, and other historic sites across the state.

First, we will travel to the Crown Point State Historic Site  for a guided tour.  In 1759, the abandoned French Fort St. Frederic was taken over by the British, who immediately began construction of an ambitious fortification complex. In 1775, at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, the rebellious colonists captured the fort and secured sorely needed equipment. Crown Point was occupied by General John Burgoyne's army in 1777 and remained under British control until the end of the war.  Explore the preserved ruins these forts and tour the museum which includes a multimedia orientation program, large scale models, and an exhibit of original artifacts recovered from the site by archaeologists. Additionally, the site offers access to the historic Crown Point Pier, the Champlain Memorial Lighthouse, the walking paths on either side of the newly constructed Lake Champlain Bridge, and fantastic views of Lake Champlain.

Next, we will head to Fort Ticonderoga. Step into the Trades Shops as skilled craftsmen make the clothing, shoes, accouterments used at Fort Ticonderoga today. Be sure to thrill at the daily cannon and musket firing demonstrations.  When the demonstrations are over, be sure to get a picture with a soldier!  Head into the hands-on Artillery Laboratory to try your hand at lifting a cannon barrel and try on uniforms from different armies!  No visit to Fort Ticonderoga is complete without a family photo with the epic cannon!  Visit the King’s Garden and roll up your sleeves into fun garden activities that will engage your senses. Enjoy delicious sandwiches, fresh salads, burgers, and fries, as well as homemade desserts and ice cream at America's Fort Cafe.  There are also take out and to-go fridge options.
