Charleston, Savannah and Jekyll Island are charming and historic southern cities that are renowned for their beauty and the many stories, sights and events that are honored and preserved for visitors today.  Picturesque and exquisitely preserved, Charleston is a visual feast of antebellum architecture, cobblestone streets, flickering lanterns and historic landmarks, while Savannah’s  presentation features the original town squares of the city’s first design as well as the incredible architecture that withstands the test of time.  Jekyll Island is a reflection of the luxurious lifestyles of the rich and famous of our country’s early years.  This tour will explore all three locations and some of the history that has made the famous and draws visitors to bask in the beauty and rich history  that was created so long ago.

Saturday, March 29:

We board the motor coach this morning and spend our day traveling south, arriving in Fredericksburg, Virginia for our first overnight at the Comfort Inn and Suites 540-891-5465. Dinner is on your own this evening at your choice of several nearby restaurants. Lunch and rest stops will be made en route to our Fredericksburg location. Your are requested to pack an overnight bag for this stop as luggage handling is not available.

Sunday, March 30

A Continental Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning prior to our departure for our overnight accommodations at Spring Hill Suites at Ripley Point 843-571-1711, Charleston, South Carolina. Dinner this evening is included at the James Island Crab House.

Monday, March 31

Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning and then we are off for a city tour of Charleston with our step on tour guide, Paula. Paula will detail architecture, The Battery, Old Charleston, South of Broad, The Citadel, Charleston's military college and touch Charleston's 200 year old history. Our tour ends at the Manigault House for our tour of one of Charleston's most exquisite antebellum structures that reflects the urban lifestyle of a wealthy rice planting family and the enslaved African Americans who lived there. Next, there will be time for lunch on your own at the 200 year old City Market with food, arts and crafts, souvenirs, and the famous sweetgrass baskets. Following lunch we are off to the Harbor to catch our afternoon boat tour to Fort Sumpter, location of the first shot of the Civil War. Following our Fort Sumpter tour we rejoin our motor coach, with our next stop being an included dinner at the Water's Edge Restaurant in Shem Creek, the location of the local fishing fleets the provide Charleston's fresh seafood. Following dinner we will return to our hotel.

Tuesday, April 1

Breakfast is included at the hotel prior to our departure to a Low Country Treasure, "Angel Oak" a Southern Live Oak estimated to be 300-400 years old that is preserved in a public park for the enjoyment of the more than 400,000 folks who visit her every year! Leaving Angel Oak, our next stop is a visit to an anomaly in South Carolina, The Charleston Tea Garden! The only tea garden in North America where you will see thousands of tea bushes covering acres of property as far as the eye can see. Our visit includes a trolly ride through the tea gardens, learning the process of creating tea bushes. A box lunch is included on the beautiful grounds with plenty of time for exploring the Tea Garden's beautiful gift shop. Our journey will continue to another historical location, Jekyll Island, home to the famous Jekyll Island Club Resort where the rich and famous of the late 19th and early 20th century wintered….. among folks of similar wealth and grandiosity……. Before our tour of the grounds and one of the historic homes, we will first check in to our accommodations at the Holiday Inn, beachfront, 912-635-2211 for the next 2 evenings. An included Dinner this evening is TBA (to be announced).

Wednesday, April 2

Breakfast is included at the hotel before we depart to explore the glorious Jekyll Island Club and it's winter "cabins" used to escape the Industrialists winter homes. Our trolly tour will travel through the property identifying the many familiar names who wintered here, most likely touring a home occupied by a name familiar to many New Yorkers, the Rockefeller home. Once again there is a wonderful gift shop and stable to visit at the conclusion of our tour. Returning to our hotel the remainder of the afternoon and evening is free time for you to enjoy the beautiful oceanfront location of our resort with time for lunch and dinner on your own .

Thursday, April 3

Breakfast is included at the Resort this morning and then and then we are off to visit the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia. Our first stop is the History Museum located in the old Central of Georgia Railway Passenger Depot, the museum takes guests on a journey through time from the city's beginnings to the present with unique exhibits and with the grounds being home to the battlefield of the second bloodiest battle of the American Revolution and marks where approximately 800 troops were killed or wounded. Our journey will take us through the Historic District of Savannah dropping us off on River Street to board the Savannah Queen for a narrated Savannah River Tour with an included lunch. There will be time for browsing on River Street before our check in at our accommodations for this evening are at the brand new Drury Inn, Pooler, Georgia (right off I95) 912-330-0400. Dinner this evening will be the Drury Kickback featuring an assortment of dinnertime snack foods….

Friday, April 4

A Drury Breakfast is included as we conclude our visits to Charleston and Savannah and begin our journey to the Great Northeast. Our accommodation this evening is at the Comfort Inn and Suites, Fredericksburg, VA 540-891-5465. Dinner will be on your own at nearby restaurants.

Saturday, April 5

A continental breakfast is available at the hotel prior to our departure for the Capital District bringing memories of the places we have seen, the stories that have been told and treasuring the new friends we have made!
