Brooklyn Botanic Garden is an urban botanic garden situated on 52 acres in the heart of Brooklyn, fostering delight and curiosity in the world of plants while inspiring an appreciation and sense of stewardship of the environment. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has an extensive collection of Flowering Cherry Blossoms*. There are multiple locations to view these beautiful buds. The Cherry Esplanade is a broad green lawn bordered by allées of flowering cherry and red oak trees. The double-flowering Kanzan cherries typically bloom at the end of April, one of the highlights of spring. Along the eastern and western edges of Cherry Esplanade are allées of scarlet oak trees, the Liberty Oaks, planted in remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001, and those who lost their lives that day. Cherry Walk is a meandering path east of Cherry Esplanade and behind the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden. The trees here include double rows of Kanzan cherries at the northern end and a wide variety of other cultivars along the southern end. Some of these cultivars are among the earliest to bloom during cherry blossom season. Other gardens include the Shakespere Garden, Rock Garden, Woodland Garden and many more! There are a few eateries and a coffee bar available for lunch on your own or you can bring your own lunch for a delightful picnic surrounded by nature!
*Temperature, precipitation, and other variations in weather all contribute to the timing of the cherry blooms. These same factors determine how long they will linger.
