Take a step back in time with a Victorian Christmas celebration in Cape May. A visit to historic Cape May illustrates "where yesterday meets today.” In America's Oldest Seaside Resort, you may forget you are in the 21st century as you view many restored Victorian homes. The architectural style of the late 1800's, later known as Victoriana, decorated the city with gingerbread, stained glass, cupola's and private gardens as each new home tried to out-do the others. The world's finest fabrics, furniture and wall treatments were used in these magnificent homes that were used as summer residences. Many of these magnificent structures are still used as private residences and many are opened to the public during the Christmas holidays. Upon our arrival we'll kick off our tour with some holiday shopping! Enjoy some free time to get acquainted with downtown Cape May and explore Washington Street Mall for some shopping and browsing. You can also scope out dining options as we will be back here for lunch on your own tomorrow. Then we’ll travel to our beautifully appointed accommodations by the water edge at Cape May’s Le Mer Beachfront Resort (800-644-5004). Fresh, bright, and thoughtfully designed with touches of home brings your ideal getaway to life starting with luxurious and modern guest rooms. Discover uninterrupted views of the ocean and captivating residential and city views. After check in we will depart for Dinner included tonight at the hotel. Your entree selections are 1)Chicken Saltimbocca, 2)Seasonal Fish or 3)Rigatoni Bolognaise. Each comes with accompaniments, Caesar salad and Cheesecake with strawberry sauce for dessert! Following dinner we will depart on a Holiday Lights Trolley Ride! Board the trolley and enjoy a front row view of Cape May’s holiday decorations as our trolley winds its way through town. Listen to your guide and learn about exterior holiday decorations, wassailing/caroling, the evolution of Santa, traditions of gift givers and the history of Christmas. We will return to the hotel following our trolley ride
Mon., December 3:
A breakfast buffet is included at the hotel this morning. Today a full morning of holiday spirit is ahead of us as we make our first stop at the Physick Estate for the Physick Family Christmas House Tour. This 1879 Victorian house museum sparkles for the holidays with authentic Victorian decorations that invite you to step back into Christmas past! The estate provides a unique living history experience with members of the Physick Family household of the 1890’s. We will also take in the Carroll Gallery Exhibit at the Physick Estate which becomes a Christmas wonderland this time of year. It’s all about the wonder of Christmas morning with the model trains and a Dept. 56 Dickens Village beneath the boughs of a giant tree. You can actually stand under their tree and feel like a kid again on Christmas Morning! Following our tour we will spend some more time at Washington Street Mall and enjoy lunch on your own. After lunch, indulge in the festive season with a delightful daytime self-guided walking tour. The Holiday Inns Tour grants you access to four (4) charming Cape May properties adorned with holiday decorations such as garlands, bows and Christmas trees. Immerse yourself in the holiday spirit as you explore these iconic properties in Cape May. A trolley shuttle will make a continuous loop during the tour. We will leave the area at 3pm with an approximate arrival in the Capital District at 10pm. One stop each way.
