Salem was the backdrop for the 1692 witchcraft trials, when innocent men, women and children suffered the consequences of witchcraft accusations, with over 250 people imprisoned and 20 of them eventually executed. The landscape of many of author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s stories and novels, Salem still remains a world renowned bewitching seaport. Salem is linked to the Witchcraft Hysteria of the 1690’s, but Salem also has a glorious maritime history and splendid architecture that are ready to be explored!  Hop on your broom and fly over to make your reservations today!

Sunday, October 23:

We will depart the Capital District for Salem’s Haunted Halloween Happenings! Upon arrival the day is yours to explore Derby Square & Salem on your own. New for 2022, a combo ticket to three of Salem’s top attractions is included (this ticket is good for BOTH days in Salem, to be used during your free time). The included attractions are: The Witch History Museum, The Pirate Museum and the Witch Dungeon Museum. At the Witch History Museum, the stories of 1692 are told through a historically accurate live presentation and tour downstairs, where you will walk through the forest, meet Tituba in Rev. Parris’ kitchen, visit Old Salem village and view 15 life size scenes depicting these stories The Witch Hysteria not only enveloped Salem, but all 34 towns and villages of Essex County. Hundreds of accused witches filled the jails awaiting trial. Some died in captivity, 19 were hanged and one old man was crushed to death. At the Pirate Museum, enjoy a guided tour through little known history. Salem docks in 1692, board a full-length pirate ship and explore an 80-foot cave, where you may encounter a rascal or two. Mingle with Captain Quelch and his crew, Blackbeard,.Kidd and others who once prowled the Massachusetts coast. Come raise the devil at the Witch Dungeon Museum! Award winning reenactment of the trial of beggar-woman Sarah Good from the original transcript of 1692. Tour of the dungeon, where you will see the poor conditions and the actual size of the cells that the accused were kept in while awaiting their trials. It also includes a recreated village and Gallows Hill. The mood is set from the moment you enter the museum, you are there in Salem Village 1692, guaranteed a unique experience with a chill or two. At approximately 3pm, we’re off to check into our accommodations at the Holiday Inn in Peabody, MA (978-535-4600). You will have time to freshen up before we return to Salem for the evening. Dinner is on your own in the Derby Square area, before we sail away on a Haunted Happenings Harbor Cruise aboard the Hannah Glover. See a different side of Salem in October, on this 75-minute cruise, which includes tarot card readings and live stories full of local pirates, haunted islands & living monsters who wreak havoc on ships to this day! All while cruising by the local shorelines and the Misery Islands. The boat has a heated main deck and an open top deck with plenty of fresh air to enjoy, and you will also find three bathrooms downstairs and a full bar and grill (yes food is available on the cruise) on the top deck! The bus will return to the hotel after our cruise at 8:30pm.

Monday, October 24:

A full breakfast is included at the hotel this morning before we depart for Salem. Upon arrival we will visit Gallows Hill: The Witchcraft and Ghost Experience. Real stories of witchcraft, ghosts, & the supernatural are brought to life during this 30 minute multi-media show. Dare you enter? After Gallows Hill your day is free to visit Derby Square, an exciting marketplace featuring a collection of shops and boutiques. There will be ample time to take advantage of the included museums, shop, explore, have lunch without the weekend crowds, and visit everything you can. We will depart for home at 4PM with an approximate arrival in the Capital District at 8PM. One stop each way.
