Each and every spring, the City of Ottawa celebrates with their annual Tulip Festival. Located in the southeastern part of the province of Ontario, Ottawa is on the southern bank of the Ottawa River opposite the city of Hull, and is situated on a bluff above the Ottawa River. Both the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal flow through the city. May is Tulip Month throughout the Capital of Canada, and the tulips show off the bounty of spring. Monday, May 12:

Our accommodations are at the 1,000 Islands Harbor Hotel (315-686-1100) in Clayton, NY. This new AAA four-diamond rated hotel sits right on the banks of the beautiful St. Lawrence River in the heart of the Thousand Islands Region and offers an indoor heated pool; a fitness room and a jacuzzi (so don't forget your bathing suit!. Tonight we will delight in a buffet dinner and show (included) at the hotel.

Tuesday, May 13:

Following a buffet breakfast at the hotel this morning, we will travel to Ottawa, Canada's Capital City. PLEASE NOTE: Due to Border Crossing, a NYS Enhanced Drivers License or a Passport are required. Here a local guide will join us for a 3-hour tour where you are sure to see thousands of tulips in various colors which are a sure sign that spring has arrived! The tour will end at the ByWard Market where you will have time for lunch (on your own) and shopping. Next we will enjoy a 75-minute narrated Rideau Canal Cruise. Highlights include the National Arts Centre, University of Ottawa, Lansdowne Park, Carleton University, Experimental Farm, Dow’s Lake, a fine view of the tulips from the water, and more! We will then return to the hotel. Dinner is on your own in the area this evening. There is a restaurant at the hotel, the Seaway Grille, or there are a variety of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The rest of your night is free to relax and enjoy the hotel amenities.

Wednesday, May 14:

Enjoy a buffet breakfast this morning with some time to relax and enjoy the amenities at the hotel. We will depart for home in the late morning and stop at Otter Creek Winery for a tour and a tasting. Otter Creek Winery, named after the creek it overlooks, opened in 2007 and currently produces over 7000 gallons of 13 different varieties of wine. The use of cold-hardy grapes produces wines unique to this area of the country. We will leave the area at 12pm with an approximate arrival in the Capital District at 5:00pm. One stop each way.
