When you hear someone talking about the great outdoors, they must be talking about the Adirondacks. Breathtaking. Pristine. Words that seem to be exaggerations elsewhere, fit them perfectly. The six-million-acre Adirondack Park - roughly the size of the entire state of Vermont - is a unique patchwork of public and private lands.  Lake Placid is the Adirondack's resort recreation center and the Winter Sports Capital of the World. Set in the heart of mountain and lake country, this quaint village was the site of two Olympic Winter Games, in 1932 & 1980. There is a variety of attractions to choose from in the Lake Placid/High Peaks Region which is considered a substantial attraction in itself. Aside from the Adirondack’s visual splendor, they offer natural wonders, Olympic venues for the sports enthusiast, museums for the intellectual and old-fashioned theme parks for the young-at-heart.

Explore the new interactive exhibits and discover the Olympic spirit while learning about remarkable athletes who changed the world of sports. Next is time for an unforgettable experience. At the Olympic Jumping Complex we’ll ride to the base of the ski jumping towers on the state-of-the-art eight passenger pulse gondola. Enjoy some time on your own in the charming downtown with plenty to see and do, all surrounded by scenic mountains and lakes. There is something here for a variety of tastes, so whether you're an art lover, a devoted shopper, or a foodie, Saranac Lake's downtown has you covered. After lunch (on your own) we will head back to Lake Placid for a scenic ride on Whiteface Mountain’s Cloudsplitter Gondola. A fifteen-minute ride gliding through the air in the awe-inspiring natural beauty of the Adirondack Mountain range, the Cloudsplitter Gondola Ride transports visitors from the base of Whiteface Mountain to the peak of Little Whiteface. At the peak itself, look around and you’ll find yourself surrounded by Lake Placid and Lake Placid Village, Lake Champlain and some of the most massive peaks in all of New York State. We will return to the hotel and dinner is on your own tonight at one of the many restaurants in town.
