Newport, RI is where history meets holiday magic—with just the right amount of sparkle. Think ocean views, charming streets, and a whole lot of festive cheer. Known as the “Grand Dame,” Newport really shows off during its month-long celebration, Christmas in Newport. Picture this: you’re stepping inside three jaw-dropping mansions—The Breakers, The Elms, and Marble House—all dressed up for the holidays. We’re talking thousands of poinsettias, fresh greenery, glowing wreaths, and beautifully decorated trees in every room. At The Elms, there’s even a 15-foot poinsettia “tree” made from about 150 plants (yes, it’s as impressive as it sounds). Add in candlelit windows, elegant tables set with vintage silver and china, and you’ve got full-on holiday vibes. And the festive fun doesn’t stop there. You’ll also visit Blithewold Estate in nearby Bristol, where the entire mansion is transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland. It’s warm, nostalgic, and honestly feels like stepping right into a holiday movie. If you love a little history, a lot of beauty, and the kind of Christmas spirit that makes you slow down and enjoy it all—this trip is calling your name. Come travel with Lynn and soak it in, make some memories, and maybe even start a new holiday tradition.

With great anticipation and expectation, we board the coach this morning and travel to Bellevue Avenue in Newport, RI headed to our first stop, Marble House. William Vanderbilt built Marble House as a 39th birthday present for his wife, Alva. It was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport's subsequent transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of opulent Gilded Age mansions. Lunch will be on your own after the tour in Brick Market Place or Bowen’s Wharf or Bannister’s Wharf, all within walking distance of the Visitors Center. Next we will tour The Elms. A National Historic Landmark, The Elms is a French-style chateau, designed by architect Horace Trumbauer as a summer home for millionaire entrepreneur Edward Berwind. It contains every technological marvel of its time. Following our tour will head to our accommodations for tonight at the Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina in Newport, RI (401-847-9000). Surrounded by historical cobblestone streets and world-famous yachts, Newport Hotel and Marina is just steps away from everything in the downtown area. After check in you will have some free time to relax before dinner tonight included at the hotel. Meal choices are as follows: 1) Baked Salmon w/orange glaze, 2) Slow roasted Rosemary Crusted Pork Loin or 3) Chickpea stuffed Portabella Mushroom and all meals included a salad, bread and butter, and chef’s choice dessert. After dinner the rest of the evening is on your own.

Monday, November 23

A full buffet breakfast is included this morning at the hotel. After breakfast we're off to the magnificent Breakers on Ochre Point Avenue. Cornelius Vanderbilt II, President and Chairman of the New York Central Railroad, commissioned leading American architect Richard Morris Hunt to design this summer retreat for his large family. This 70-room Italian Renaissance-style house includes a 45 foot high central Great Hall. A National Historic Landmark, it sits on a 13 acre estate overlooking Atlantic Avenue. Following our tour we will travel to the Brick Market Place, located in the heart of downtown Newport, where shopping is unique. With over four acres of shopping, there’s sure to be something for everyone. You will also be able to explore Bannister’s & Bowens’ Wharves and will have time for lunch (on your own) and shopping before we leave the area at 2pm. Our next and last stop will be at Blithewold Estate where you will enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent property in Bristol, Rhode Island.
