Saturday, April 9:

Our adventure begins as we depart the Capital District and head south. Tonight’s accommodations are at the Comfort Suites Fredericksburg South (540-891-5465) in Fredericksburg, VA. Dinner will be on your own tonight.

Sunday, April 10:

After a continental breakfast at the hotel, we’re off to Charleston, South Carolina! Our accommodations are at the Springhill Suites at Ripley Point (843-571-1711). Dinner is included this evening at the Charelston Crabhouse (Menu TBA). Then we will return to the hotel.


Monday, April 11:

A continental breakfast is included at the hotel this morning. Today we will embark on a guided carriage tour of Charleston’s Historic District. Along the way we’ll view 18th and 19th century buildings, while learning about the history of Charleston, and its important role in American history. The tour will conclude in City Market, where you will have free time to explore the numerous shops and galleries and enjoy lunch on your own. Then we will travel to the Boone Hall Plantation. The mansion that exists on Boone Hall Plantation today was built in 1936 by Canadian ambassador Thomas Stone as part of the Second Wave of Reconstruction. This guided tour of the first floor allows guests to see how this Georgian-designed home blends recovered materials and antique furnishings to recreate an atmosphere that would have surrounded a Coastal Carolina planter’s family and his guests. We will also visit the Gullah Theater which presents a live presentation of this unique culture adapted by African slaves. Following our tour you will have time on your own to view the Slave Cabins. After our tour we will depart for the Charleston Harbor for a dinner Cruise on the Spirit of Charleston. Enjoy a four-course meal made to order using fresh, local ingredients. We will return to the hotel after dinner and your evening is free.


Tuesday, April 12:

A continental breakfast is included at the hotel this morning. We will then depart for Savannah, Georgia. Our first stop today will be the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force for a two hour docent led tour. Located only minutes from Downtown Savannah, where the Eighth Air Force was activated in 1942, the Museum features over 90,000 square feet of exhibits, interactive displays, historical artifacts and a magnificent collection of aviation art. See a visually realistic mission experience, a world-renowned research Center and beautiful Memorial Garden Next savor a buffet luncheon (included) at the in-house restaurant – Miss Sophie’s Marketplace; including Green Salad with Rolls & Butter, Hot Entrée (Chef’s Choice), Two Side Dishes, Beverage and Dessert. Following our tour & lunch we will travel to our accommodations for the next two nights at the Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island (912-635-3733). Dinner is included tonight at Jekyll Island Seafood Company, located in the heart of Beach Village, offering guests a true coastal experience. Menu is TBA. After dinner we will return to the hotel for the night.


Wednesday, April 13:

A continental breakfast is included at the hotel. We will then depart for the Jekyll Island History Museum. Explore the Jekyll Island Historic District on a Landmark Historic Trolley Tour. The Jekyll Island Club members created an exclusive Gilded Age island retreat for family and friends on this barrier island. Those empire builders shaped our nation’s future, now step into their past. This guided trolley tour of our 240-acre historic district includes entry into an historic structure and admission into the Mosaic Gallery at your leisure. Lunch on your own in St. Simons Pier Village, before our St. Simons Tour. Moss covered oaks and ocean breezes weave past and present together on St. Simons Island as your guide narrates delightful stories from the Prehistoric geologic beginnings of these barrier islands, through the Colonial Era, the Plantation Era, the Civil War, the Timber Era, up to the elegant present-day Resort Era. Other sites, as time permits, will be the Avenue of the Oaks and remains of the former Retreat Plantation. Dinner will be included tonight at Jekyll Island Club (Meal Choices TBA). Following dinner the rest of your evening is free.


Thursday, April 14:

A continental breakfast is included at the hotel this morning and we will depart for Savannah, GA.. Upon arrival we will meet our local guide and embark on a narrated two hour riding tour of Savannah's Historic District. Savannah, GA is steeped in nostalgic remembrance of days gone by and eloquently displays exquisite ironwork, ancient cobblestones, splendid homes, and historic churches nestled among gorgeous park-like squares. Highlights of your tour include the 2.2 square miles of the Historic District’s rich history with its restored 18th and 19th century buildings and the picturesque waterfront where cotton warehouses are now restaurants, hotels, and shops. Next, you’ll have free time to stroll Riverstreet for shopping and lunch on your own. Following lunch we will depart on a Dolphin/Eco Cruise. The vessel provides an excellent viewing platform designed to get you as close as possible to the dolphins without getting your feet wet. The team will introduce you to our local dolphins as they interact in their natural environment. The informative commentary will keep you updated throughout the cruise. Dinner is included tonight at Paula Deen’s Creek House Restaurant. Nestled under the palms of turner’s creek, Paula Deen’s creek house offers a wide variety of southern classics and seafood favorites with a coastal, Savannah flair. Meal choices are: Shrimp & Grits – Stone-ground grits, shrimp tasso ham, smoked andouille sausage, peppers, onions and a white wine cream sauce; Brooke’s Savannah Salmon – Straight from Jamie and Brooke’s table to yours. Spice rubbed salmon topped with an avocado and tomato salad, served on a bed of jasmine rice; Scallops Pomodori – Pan-seared jumbo sea scallops with crushed plum tomatoes, fresh basil, chopped garlic and baby spinach tossed with angel hair pasta and topped with shaved parmesan cheese; Fried Seafood Combo – Hand-breaded shrimp and fish fried golden brown, served with seafood hush puppies and French fries accompanied by homemade tartar sauce, spicy remoulade and cocktail sauces for dipping; Creek House Ribeye – Premium hand-cut 14 oz. ribeye aged to perfection and grilled just the way you like it served with a baked potato; OR Cilantro Lime Grilled Chicken – Juicy cilantro-lime marinated chicken grilled to perfection, served on a bed of jasmine rice with steamed broccoli. All meals include beverage selection of coffee, iced tea or soft drink, Small Salad & Chef’s Select Dessert. No substitutions. Food allergies and vegetarian requests must be made in advance. After dinner we will then check in to our accommodations at the Doubletree Hotel Historic Savannah (912-721-2305) in Savannah’s historic district and your evening is free.


Friday, April 15:

A continental breakfast is included at the hotel this morning, and then we will bid the South a fond farewell and begin our homeward journey north. After rest & lunch stops we’ll arrive at our accommodations for the evening, at the Comfort Suites Fredericksburg South (540-891-1112) in Fredericksburg, VA. Dinner is on your own tonight.


Saturday, April 16:

A continental breakfast is included at the hotel before we depart and head home. With so many wonderful experiences, you will have plenty to discuss along the way with new friends and old. Stops will be made on route home with an approximate arrival in the Capital District at 6pm
