From the Rhineland and Palatinate of Germany came great migrations of settlers to Pennsylvania in the 18th century. Because they retained their customs, speech and developed beautiful and bountiful farms, the Pennsylvania Dutch country is one of the state's greatest tourist attractions. There are all degrees of conservatism among the descendants of German immigrants and they all share tremendous vigor, family devotion, love of the Bible and a belief in thrift and hard work. You tour will take you through the heart of Amish Country as you're immersed in their simplistic lifestyle with an up close look at their daily lives. Step back in time and join friends and family on this charming and scrumptious tour that celebrates the simpler pleasures in life!

Friday, Oct 21:

When you board the coach this morning you are on your way to another country: Amish Country! Upon our arrival in Lancaster we will go to our overnight accommodations at Country Inn of Lancaster (717-393-3413). You will have time to relax and freshen up after check in. An all-you-can-eat buffet dinner is included this evening at the Miller’s Smorgasbord. This award winning smorgasbord features mouth-watering American favorites as well as their own distinctive Heritage Dishes and bakery-fresh desserts...chilled steamed shrimp, top sirloin, breast of turkey, golden fried chicken, baked ham and fish, chicken corn soup, baked cabbage, bakery fresh cheesecake, shoo-fly pie, gourmet apple pie, and much more. After dinner we're off to the Sight & Sound Millennium Theatre to see the all new show, David. Master Poet. Fearless Warrior. Anointed King. From still waters to shadowed valleys, David’s ascent to the throne is filled with towering giants, wild animals, and Philistine soldiers. After unprecedented victories lead to devastating failures, this passionate warrior will face the biggest battle of all: the one within himself. Experience one of the most legendary Bible stories as it comes to life with spectacular special effects, massive sets, and live animals in this brand-new original stage production. After the show, we will return to the hotel and you will be on your own for the rest of the evening.

Saturday, Oct.22:

A buffet breakfast is included at the hotel this morning. A local guide will then join us for a 3 hour Amish Farmlands tour. Our guide will give us detailed "inside information" on Lancaster County's Amish; we'll learn about their history, religion, customs and lifestyle. Pass by several one room schoolhouses which are still being used today by the Amish children. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to see the Amish people working in the fields or horse and buggies clip-clopping down the roads. After touring through the Amish farmlands we will enjoy lunch (included) in an Amish home. Look forward to a family style meal, homemade bread, and delicious homemade desserts. We will dine with Sam Lapp and his sons while Ruth and the girls serve us the family style meal. Yes, the family will be dining with us! As we get ready to return home we will make one last exciting stop at Kitchen Kettle Village where you'll find over 40 shops jammed full of Lancaster's simple pleasures. Sample fresh jams, stroll over to the Bake Shop, scoot over to the Jam & Relish Kitchen and try their sweet and savory selections. Once you’ve stocked up on all your goodies we will depart for home at 3pm with an approximate arrival in the Capital District around 10pm. One stop each way.
