Wilkum! You're among friends in Lancaster County...the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. There is more than one reason to visit, more than one great attraction, more surprises down scenic byways, and more ways to have a great time. A healthy helping of what makes this area unique stems from the charms of the Amish. In the Amish communities, horse-drawn buggies clippety-clap down country roads; children play outside one-room schoolhouses; and a stop at a roadside stand is an experience. When you mix the old and the new, the past with the present, the end result is always "fun. This year we will get double the entertainment; see two shows that will put you in the holiday spirit! Celebrate the holidays this year with a special tour to Amish Country where simple joys and pleasures are yours for the taking!

Did you know that Lancaster, PA was once the capital of the United States, or that the magnificent, wooden beamed barns of Amish country are constructed in just one day? Upon arrival delight in shopping on your own at the Kitchen Kettle Village, where you'll find over 40 shops jammed full of Lancaster's simple pleasures. Next we will check into our accommodations at The Country Inn of Lancaster (717-393-3413), which offers a delightful "home away from home" atmosphere, as well as an indoor pool. An all you can eat buffet dinner is included this evening at the Miller’s Smorgasbord. This award winning smorgasbord features mouth-watering American favorites as well as their own distinctive Heritage Dishes and bakery-fresh desserts...chilled steamed shrimp, top sirloin, breast of turkey, golden fried chicken, baked ham and fish, chicken corn soup, baked cabbage, bakery fresh cheesecake, shoo-fly pie, gourmet apple pie, and much more. After dinner we're off to the Sight & Sound Millennium Theatre to see The Miracle of Christmas After decades of crushing Roman rule, the Hebrew people are losing hope. When will the promised Messiah come? Into the midst of this turmoil, young Mary is told she will miraculously bear God’s son. Who can even believe such a thing? Celebrate the season with your whole family as the Christmas story unfolds right before your eyes. Witness the event that is central to the season, brought to life on a panoramic stage with high drama, spectacular special effects and live animals on stage and in the aisles. After the show, we will return to the hotel.
Sat., December 7
A full breakfast is included at the hotel this morning and then a local guide will then join us for a 2-hour Amish Farmlands tour. Travel the scenic byways through the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country to see a slice of rural life. Pass by several one room schoolhouses which are still being used today by the Amish children. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to see Amish horse and buggies on the roads. We will visit with the Lapp family inside their home where Anna and her girls will make some snacks and drinks for you while you sit and talk and get to know the family. Next we're off to the American Music Theatre to see their 2019 Christmas Show: Joy to the World. The ringing of church bells in a quaint town square set the scene for Joy to the World, AMT’s newest holiday spectacular. Evoking the revered holiday nostalgia of hometowns all across the US, our stage will transform into a small-town winter carnival brimming with family and friends. Featuring scenes filled with entertaining elves, dramatic dancing, sensational singing, and grand moments galore. The incredible AMT Singers, Dancers, and Orchestra will perform favorites such as “Away in a Manger,” “Jingle Bells,” “Hark, The Herald Angels Sing,” “Let it Snow,” and “Carol of the Bells” live on stage. Awe-inspiring music and dance, phenomenal voices, and light-hearted holiday humor are the ingredients for this season’s all-new extravaganza. After the show we will enjoy lunch (included) in an Amish home. Look forward to a family style meal of two meats, three vegetables, homemade bread, and delicious homemade desserts. We will dine with Sam Lapp and his sons while Ruth and the girls serve us the family style meal. Yes, the family will be dining with us! We will leave the area at 3pm with an approximate arrival in the Capital District at 10pm. One stop each way.
