Our Covid experience without our beloved Yankee Trails travel has been so very difficult, but with vaccinations happening, care and safety being taken, we are ready to celebrate a return to the highways and byways of our great state and country!  Let’s hop on our dearly missed motorcoach and travel again!  Let’s head to our beautiful Adirondack Mountains and spectacular Lake Placid.  An intimate and personal tour has been arranged, especially for you, by two of your favorites, our outstanding team members, Program Director Judy Kindlon and Driver Doug Griffin!  We are gathering at a warm, welcoming hotel edging on Lake Placid with views of White Face Mountain.  We’ll leisurely travel up the Northway with a stop in Chestertown and Wilmington before arriving at Whiteface Mountain for lunch (included)  and an amazing ride to the top of Little Whiteface on the Whiteface Cloudsplitter!  In Lake Placid we’ll receive a warm and friendly welcome at the Wildwood Resort, with time to explore and freshen before dinner (included) at the farmhouse and historic Cascade Inn.  Our day 2 step on guided tour of the Olympic venues; Ski Jumps, Bob sled, Luge, Olympic Training Center and Olympic Arena, will be led by our hotel host and past Olympic Committee President, the renowned Stuart Hemsley.  There will be time for exploring and lunch on your own in the wonderful village of Lake Placid on Mirror Lake before our afternoon return to the hotel for kayaking, paddle boating, resting, gazing, chatting, and just plain relaxing before our catered buffet dinner on the beautiful lakeside lawn at the Wildwood.  Bonfires and s’mores will complete the day.  Day 3 will be a slow and casual start before we enjoy a Pontoon boat tour on Lake Placid, visit the North Elba Historic Museum, John Brown’s Farm, enjoy lunch (included) at Mt VonHovenberg before reluctantly leaving the beautiful Adirondacks and head south toward the Capital District…but wait!  There’s one more stop en route home… and it’s a surprise!

Tues, September 21

We are ready to travel again!

Boarding the motorcoach we'll travel the Northway to our first stop, Chestertown, NY, nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Adirondack Mountains where we will grab a coffee and break at the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor and visit Rustic Charm, a gift shop specializing in all things Adirondack! Our journey will continue to Wilmington, NY home of the Adirondack History Museum where memorabilia and stories of the Adirondack life abound. As our motor coach drives through the spectacular scenery, we'll arrive at Whiteface Mountain, a gem among our Adirondack peaks, for an included lunch followed by a Cloudsplitter gondola ride to the top of the Little Whiteface for awe-inspiring views of the natural beauty surrounding you. It's time to check into our accommodations for the next two nights at the Wildwood Resort, 2135 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid 518-523-2624 before we enjoy our included dinner at the historic and beautiful Cascades Inn Restaurant. Your meal choices are 1) Prime Rib 2) Chicken Marsala or 3) Broiled Salmon. Following dinner there will be time to relax and enjoy a fire by the lakeside.

Wed, September 22

Our day begins with breakfast at the Olympic Ski Jump Center and continues with our Olympic Tour Guide Stuart introducing us to the Olympic venues that hosted the 1932 and 1980 competitions. We'll ride the high speed gondola to the jumps and then ride a glass elevator to the top, the 120 meter ski jump where the athletes make those daring, amazing arial jump! The views are incredible! We'll also visit Mt. VonHovenberg, home to the Bob Sled and Luge tracks, Cross Country Skiing, the Biathlon and more before ending in the Village of Lake Placid and our visit at the Herb Brooks Arena, home of hockey (The Miracle On Ice! 1980), Ice Skating and the speed Skating Oval. We'll fit in a stop at the Olympic Training Center too before free time in the Village for lunch on your own and exploring. Returning to the Hotel, there will be time to use the Resort paddleboards, kayaks or rowboats or just grab a chair and enjoy the breathtaking Adirondack scenery. A BBQ chicken dinner with pulled pork sliders, baked beans, coleslaw, meatless ziti, mixed veggies and cupcakes for dessert. Buffet will be catered on the lawn by the lake, by the fire, for all to enjoy! Okay, maybe some s'mores by the fire!

Thurs, September 23

Our day begins leisurely with a Continental breakfast, coffee, juice, pastry and fruit available in the Breezeway of your hotel. Enjoy your morning….hopefully you will hear the sound of the loons echoing across the early morning Lake Placid waters! For those who would like a more substantial breakfast, several options are available within walking distance of the hotel. It is time to bid farewell to our host Stuart and his lovely wife Petra as midmorning takes us onto Lake Placid itself to enjoy a 1 hour narrated Scenic Pontoon Boat Tour. As we depart, we'll stop at the North Elba Historic Museum for a glimpse of Lake Placid's life through the years. We'll return to Mt. VonHovenberg for an included lunch before our visit to John Brown's Farm who was a famed abolitionist credited with the attack at Harper's Ferry prior to the beginning of the Civil War.

Yes, we are returning to travel! Hopefully, this tour will be followed by many more adventures! We will return to the Capital District with an approximate arrival time at 4pm…. But… with one more, little mystery, surprise stop on the way home! We can't wait to see you again. Let's Go! Let's make some new memories!
