Washington, D.C. is more than just the nation’s capital, it's home to more than 150 embassies, chancelleries, and diplomatic residences where colors, cultures and languages come together to create a unique, friendly, and diverse atmosphere. The city is divided into 4 sections and the Capitol is located in the very heart of the city. The cherry trees that surround the Tidal Basin were a gift from the people of Japan in 1912 and are an important part of Washington's heritage. The tradition of celebrating the arrival of spring in Washington began in 1935 when the trees blossomed, and this celebration became known as the National Cherry Blossom Festival in 1941. There will be time for visiting and photos at the memorials. After our tour, we will enjoy a boxed lunch as we travel to the Arlington National Cemetery for a guided tour aboard the Tourmobile. America's largest burial ground has thousands of white headstones including those of President JFK, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, World-Champion boxer Joe Louis, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Dinner is included this evening at the Fish Market in Alexandria.
