Romance looms on the Outer Banks, a long, narrow stretch of barrier islands in eastern North Carolina. The idyllic setting, OBX to those in the know, features miles of remote, sandy beaches—on the east side, waves roll in from the Atlantic Ocean, while on the west, sounds provide moments of peaceful reflection. The area is also home to abundant wildlife that includes wild mustangs galloping on the beach. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a Nicholas Sparks novel!

August 29th

A hot breakfast will be at the hotel this morning. Meet your local guide and start your day where the Wright Brothers started modern aviation. Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, is located on Bodie Island in the northernmost portion of the Outer Banks. Visitors can climb to the stunning granite monument at the top of Kill Devil Hill and walk the actual flight lines of the four flights Orville and Wilbur made on December 17, 1903. Then head four miles south to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, where you can scramble up the tallest sand dunes in the eastern U.S. Enjoy lunch on your own in the beautiful downtown of Manteo along the Waterfront. Get up close with the area’s wildlife at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, a 68,000 square-foot complex featuring numerous exhibit galleries that each focus on aspects of the Outer Banks. Guests will encounter river otters, stingrays, endangered sea turtles and much more before ending at the spectacular 285,000-gallon Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit, filled with sharks and large game fish. After we will visit the grounds of “Elizabeth Gardens” where you will also see a beautiful array of antique statuary. You will have time to freshen up before we depart for dinner included at Kelly’s Restaurant in North Carolina. We will return to the hotel after dinner.

August 30th

Hot breakfast will be at the hotel this morning. Meet your local tour guide as we embark on a “Pony Tour” in Corolla. Climb aboard the open-air vehicle for your exciting tour that includes local lore, ecology and legends. You will cover up to 20 miles of pristine beach where you may see surfing dolphin, deer
and maybe a boar or two. The “Banker Ponies” roam free across the beaches, and you will have a chance to get up and close and personal with these majestic animals. You will have time on your own for lunch and shopping at the “Timbuck II” shopping destination which features a wide variety of retail and restaurant experiences. You will have time to wander through a massive complex featuring over 60 venues ranging from art galleries and clothing
stores. We will then return to the hotel to freshen up and promptly depart for dinner at the Black Pelican Restaurant in Kitty Hawk. Your evening is free.

August 31st

Hot breakfast is included this morning. Once again we will meet our local tour guide in Corolla. We will take a tour of Currituck Park where you will view the Outer Banks of North Carolina Currituck Beach Lighthouse and have time to browse through the gift shop. We will tour the fascinating and historic Whale Club & Exhibit and then the Outer Banks Exhibit for Wildlife Education Center. We will then depart for the quaint town of Duck for lunch on our own at Scarborough Faire. In this open-air market, you’ll find yourself in the perfect place to enjoy a summertime ice cream cone, get lost in the pages of a bestseller, or browse the unique shops for hidden treasures. Here at Scarborough Faire, amidst the natural setting, the artisans and the young families shopping, the atmosphere experienced is decidedly more park-like than shopping center. After lunch and shopping you will have time to return to the hotel to enjoy the beach and pool time on your own. Tonight, dinner will be at Uncle Ike’s Beach Grill in Corolla.
