Travel to the Gettysburg National Military Park, with over 1,000 monuments and cannon along over 40 miles of scenic roads, a battlefield shrine to the Union and Confederate soldiers who fought here.  Of the more than 2,000 land engagements of the Civil War, Gettysburg ranks supreme. Although the Battle of Gettysburg did not end the war, nor did it attain any major war aim for the North or the South, it remains the great battle of the war.  Here at Gettysburg, more men actually fought and more men died than in any other battle before or since on North American soil.  History and civil war buffs come one, come all and join us for this terrific tour!

Travel south with us today, to our destination, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Our first stop is at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center. The 24,000 square foot Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War features 12 galleries with the relics of the Battle of Gettysburg and personalities who served in the Civil War; interactive exhibits; and multimedia presentations covering the conflict from beginning to end, and, in particular, the Battle of Gettysburg and its terrible aftermath. View the Cyclorama Painting experience, a 377-foot painting in the round that immerses you in the fury of Pickett's Charge, the Gettysburg Museum, and hear Abraham Lincoln’s words in the 22-minute film, "A New Birth of Freedom". Lunch will be on your own in the museum’s Refreshment Saloon and Battlegrounds Cafe. Then we are off on a 3 hour Gettysburg Battlefield Tour with a Licensed Battlefield Guide. After a full day of touring, we will check into our accommodations at the Courtyard by Marriott (717-334-5600) which is located just outside of the town center. The newly remodeled non-smoking hotel is just minutes from Gettysburg’s popular historic sites and features an indoor pool and free Wi-fi. Dinner is included tonight at the historic Fairfield Inn where we will enjoy dinner from The South. After the Battle of Gettysburg, on July 4, 1863, General Robert E. Lee and his soldiers stopped to dine here. During dinner, “General & Mrs. Lee” will entertain you with stories from the 19th century and the Civil War. We will return to the hotel following dinner and the rest of the evening is on your own.

Friday, July 6

A hot buffet breakfast is included this morning at the hotel before we depart for Day 2 of The Gettysburg 155th Anniversary National Reenactment. Events today will include: Those Damn Black Hats - Repulsing Rebel Assault on Seminary Ridge battle reenactment, Live Mortar Fire Demonstration, Gettysburg Address and photo op with "Lincoln", and Springing the Trap - Cavalry Ambush at Hunterstown battle reenactment. We will return to the hotel at the end of the day. Dinner tonight will be on your own in downtown Gettysburg.

The tour of the Gettysburg Heritage Center Museum concludes with the Award-Winning movie "Gettysburg: An Animated Map," the best orientation to understanding the Battle of Gettysburg.
